We started with fiber males in 2016, with two free alpacas as our starter herd. We loved the alpaca lifestyle so much that we were pretty quickly all in.
Two of our sons became involved in 4-H in 2017, and we enjoyed it so much that we started looking at what else we could do with alpacas. We visited a AOA show in 2019, just to watch, and we were immediately hooked. 2020-2021 slowed us down, but we kept working with our alpacas and making plans, bursting into the scene in late 2021.
Gavin and Colton both won at 2022 AOA Nationals in the performance division. Gavin wants to be a judge. Colton won the 2022 Maryland Alpaca Breeders Association Future Farmer award.
We bought a half share in 1 female to start breeding, and we have since added 2.5 more females, with crias due in 2024. We recently purchased 3 males from a top seedstock producer, with the goal of offering step-up genetics to east coast breeders, especially smaller breeders who may not have deep pockets or the ability to travel very far for top genetics.
We are also an AOA Youth Mentor Farm, offering support to local youth to encourage their participation in the amazing world of alpacas. This means that any child who wishes to meet alpacas, work with alpacas, or show alpacas is welcome to join us. We have taught some performance clinics and helped new farms sign up for shows, banding everyone together for more fun and learning! We have been very active in 4-H as well, as a host farm, leasing alpacas to local youth so everyone could be involved; we will not be continuing with 4-H though. We are MAPACA and MABA members.
Finally, we have our own fiber products for sale! Hats, socks and yarn from our alpacas are huge hits, as well as dryer balls and felted soaps.
Come have some fun with us!
